Day 61: Tehachapi, Round Two

The next morning Ghosthiker asked me how I was feeling.

“Much better,” I told her.

“Are you still thinking about getting off the trail?”

“No,” I smiled. “Not yet. I guess I just needed a good nights’ sleep.”

“Oh, good! I was afraid you were going to leave us.”

I almost started crying again.

We grabbed an early breakfast at the Town Baker and then walked around downtown for several hours hoping to meet Mayor Max. He didn’t come into town that day, unfortunately. But we’d stayed in town just long enough to justify grabbing a delicious light lunch at the Gastronome, which was very fancy despite being decorated with many lawn gnomes! Naturally, I let Oswald mingle with his own people while we ate.

After lunch, we packed up the car and headed north toward Tehachapi to stay with our favorite trail angels, Scott and Jennifer! It was a long drive and when we finally arrived, Scott and Jennifer greeted us warmly. We spent a lovely evening at their home, where Sparky made a delicious chicken curry and we consumed at least three good bottles of Chardonnay while staying up way past hiker midnight chatting.
